Muslim immigration to the West is not just immigration. It’s not merely about “seeking a better life,” and it is certainly not some spontaneous act of cultural blending. It is Hijrah - a concept deeply rooted in Islamic history and, for many, understood as a command.
Hijrah is more than just “migration.” In Islamic tradition, it is celebrated as a religious obligation with a higher purpose: migrating into non-Muslim lands in order to expand Islam and, ultimately, establish it as the dominant system. This idea traces directly back to Muhammad himself, who in 622 AD fled Mecca for Medina. That journey was not an act of escape from war, but a strategic move to consolidate power and form the first Islamic state. It became the official beginning of the Islamic calendar - proof of how central and celebrated Hijrah is within Islam’s historical consciousness.
From that moment, Hijrah has been invoked as a model of Islamic expansion. The pattern is clear:
-
Move into non-Muslim lands
-
Form insular Muslim communities
-
Build mosques and religious institutions
-
Secure legal and political footholds
-
Gradually implement Islamic norms and Sharia law
-
Ultimately replace host culture with Islamic supremacy
The sources themselves reflect this intent. Muhammad is recorded as saying: “I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: ‘There is no god but Allah.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari 385).
The Qur’an, too, explicitly praises migration for the sake of Allah:
“Those who migrated for the cause of Allah after being wronged, We will surely settle them in this world in a good place.” (Qur’an 16:41)
“And whoever emigrates for the cause of Allah will find many locations and abundance.” (Qur’an 4:100).
Modern Islamist thinkers echo the same logic. Muslim Brotherhood ideologue Yusuf al-Qaradawi declared openly: “We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America, not through the sword, but through Da’wah (proselytizing) and Hijrah.”
This isn’t theory alone. Migration numbers underscore the scale of change. According to Pew Research, Europe’s Muslim population stood at about 25.8 million in 2016 and could rise to 35 million or more by 2050 depending on migration trends. In Germany alone, Muslims already make up roughly 6.1% of the population, while Sweden: once almost entirely secular and ethnically homogeneous, Now has close to 8% Muslim population, with higher proportions among the youth. The United States, too, has seen rapid growth: the Muslim population has more than doubled since 2007, fueled by both immigration and higher fertility rates.
These demographic shifts are not accidental. They align uncomfortably well with the very process described in Islamic sources: move in, form communities, gain a foothold, and gradually reshape host societies. This isn’t about bombs falling or armies crossing borders. It’s about a persistent, religiously justified process of spreading Islam everywhere, under every condition. And until Western societies understand Hijrah as more than just immigration, as a long-term instrument of ideological conquest, they will continue to lose ground politically, legally, demographically, and culturally.
