Watch the footage and the whole game falls apart in about ten seconds. A mob hurls rocks and firebombs at an Israeli patrol, and woven right into the crowd, not across the street, not behind a barrier, but shoulder to shoulder with the attackers, stand men in blue 饾槜饾槞饾槍饾槡饾槡 vests, cameras up. They are not documenting the violence. They are 饾惄饾悮饾惈饾惌 饾惃饾悷 饾惌饾悺饾悶 饾悷饾惃饾惈饾惁饾悮饾惌饾悽饾惃饾惂.
This is the trick that has poisoned years of war coverage. The press vest is treated as a magic garment that converts anyone wearing it into a neutral observer whose word the BBC and the wire services will print without a second thought. But as one Israeli analyst put it, 饾槩 饾槺饾槼饾槮饾槾饾槾 饾樂饾槮饾槾饾樀 饾槬饾槹饾槮饾槾 饾槸饾槹饾樀 饾樀饾樁饾槼饾槸 饾槩 饾樀饾槮饾槼饾槼饾槹饾槼饾槳饾槾饾樀 饾槳饾槸饾樀饾槹 饾槩 饾槴饾槹饾樁饾槼饾槸饾槩饾槶饾槳饾槾饾樀. The IDF has named case after case, Anas al-Sharif, Hussam Shabat, Ismail Abu Omar ,Al Jazeera figures it identifies, with captured documents, as operatives of H∗mas and Islamic Jihad.
The most damning of them is Abu Omar, who 饾惄饾惃饾惉饾惌饾悶饾悵 饾惎饾悽饾悵饾悶饾惃 饾惃饾悷 饾悺饾悽饾惁饾惉饾悶饾惀饾悷 饾悽饾惂饾惉饾悽饾悵饾悶 饾悎饾惉饾惈饾悮饾悶饾惀 during the October 7 invasion, moving alongside the terrorists as they carried out the slaughter. He did not cover the attack. By his own camera, he rode in with it, and then went right back to filing for a global news network as if nothing had happened.
Understand what that means for every emotionally staged clip you are shown. When the cameraman is embedded with the people throwing the firebombs, the footage is not journalism, it is 饾惌饾悺饾悶 饾惄饾惈饾惃饾惄饾悮饾悹饾悮饾惂饾悵饾悮 饾悮饾惈饾惁 饾惃饾悷 饾惌饾悺饾悶 饾悮饾惌饾惌饾悮饾悳饾悿. The soldiers are forced to choose between defending themselves and handing the enemy a martyr in a press vest, which is precisely the outcome the staging is designed to produce.
