Filasṭīn (Palestine) = The land of the strangers/foreigners.

In 1923, not all Arabs were happy with the name “Palestine”.

A letter sent to the paper Filastin reads:
 “To the esteemed editor of Filasṭīn:
Tell me - why did you name your newspaper Filasṭīn (Palestine),
when some take this word to mean ‘the land of the strangers/foreigners’? 

Meanwhile the Zionists keep insisting that it is the Land of Israel itself - yesterday, today, and tomorrow - and their tongues will pronounce nothing but [the bare letters],

sīn and ṭīn. (In other words, they don’t think highly of the word Filastin either) 

I put this question to you because we - silenced before the truth - have become strangers in this country.

We are not permitted to say a word in it if it contradicts what the Zionists say:

 they who trace themselves to Israel and reckon this land their inheritance ever after - as though they had never been expelled from it, as though the Messiah had never preached in it, as though Muḥammad had never ascended from its al-Aqṣā mosque - al-Aqṣā, the first [qibla] of the Muslims - as though there were no successor for the Muslims and no lineage for the Arabs”. 

 Note how the writer arguments are:
- Palestine is a looked down upon word, meaning land of foreigners +(there is an aregument that the root Palash as in pleshet in Semitic language had the meaning of invasion), even Zionist disregard it.
- The Jews were expelled from the land, so it’s not theirs anymore

- Our lineage is Arab and Muslim (no word about being Canaanites).
