Debunking denialism and negation lie:
Until Eliezer Ben Yehuda modernized Hebrew in the 1800’s, it was “not in use.”
Bigots love peddling this BS to deny Jewish history, Jewish existence, and Jewish ties to Israel. Its absurdity and sheer stupidity astounds. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that those who hate Israel know zero history, but the lack of critical thinking skills and ingorance in the information age is still baffling.
Now for reality:
Eliezer Ben Yehuda only modernized conversational Hebrew for EVERYDAY USE.
By that time, Hebrew was ALREADY in use by Jews around the globe for millennia:
- Recited by Jews in prayers three times daily (Shacharit, Mincha, and Maariv) facing Jerusalem, using Jewish prayer books in Hebrew called the “Siddur” (an ancient Hebrew word for “order”);
- Recited as a Hebrew blessing before consuming food and in a Hebrew prayer after finishing to eat;
- Read and studied in the Torah in Yeshivot (Jewish rabbinical and religious schools);
- Studied by specially educated Torah scribes, Rabbis, who learned the ancient art of Jewish calligraphy, and memorize the entire Torah, one letter at a time. Any letter or vowel off and the entire Torah is considered unfit for use something that can take a year or more to calligraphy by hand on specially chosen, unblemished, hides of specific animals;
- Written on a parchment - the Shmah prayer - (Hebrew) in a scroll placed on the door post of every Jew’s home called a “mezuzah”, which is blessed by a Hebrew prayer (and usually bears a Jewish letter);
- Written on a parchment the same Shma prayer in Hebrew and placed in a small black box with black straps placed in the center of the forhead of Jewish adult males for prayer;
- Read a portion of the Torah in Hebrew, with the proper inflections, by every Jewish boy at age 13 to become Bar Mirzvah’d (and by Jewish girls at age 12, depending on the community/tradition);
- Read in Synagogues every Sabbath in “siddurim” (prayer books written in Hebrew) weekly;
- Read in a scroll called the “Megilah of Esther”, the story of Queen Esther and Mordechai’s saving the Jewish people of Persia on the Jewish holiday of Purim, annually;
- Read in the Passover Haggadah, on the holiday of Passover, annually, the story of how Jews escaped as slaves from Egypt into Israel;
- Recited in prayer by Jewish grooms and brides in the Jewish marriage ceremony;
- Recited in prayer during the “Brit Milah” which is the ritual of circumcision and covenant with Gd.
As the Jew haters attempting to negate and deny 3,300+ years of Jewish history in Israel will have you wrongly believe: a language need not be spoken conversationally to exist or be in use.
This is the reason most Jews till today can read and understand the Dead Sea Scrolls from the 1st century found in the Qumran caves in Judea by an Arab Bedouin the 1940’s…because it is an exact copy (save a couple of vowels) of the Torah Jews were reading ALREADY for millennia, and till today.
There was no “Rosetta Stone” to translate and learn Hebrew from like ancient Heiroglyphics. Jews passed it down from father to son, for generations, as commanded in Deuteronomy (“Dvarim” in Hebrew).
Jews reserved Hebrew for religous practice as it is the holy language of Gd, but it was always in use.
So when you see the lie that Hebrew was a “dead language” resurrected by “Zionists” to steal some ancient identity (like the Arabs stole the ancient extinct Greek identity) educate the ignorant with the above. Their projection and inversion tactics are ubiquitous, every accusation is a page from Arab history.
Also, explain that this is why most Jews can read the words on these artifacts excavated all around in Israel:
Then ask those peddling these denialism lies: where are the “Palestinian” archeological exhibits after 20 years of digging under Gaza to create 350 miles of terror tunnels, missile/weaponry smuggling networks, minutions silos, and terrorist bunkers that spans most of Gaza?
Where are those artifacts bearing Arabic tying the ancient extinct Greek Philistines or (completely different ethnicity,) the Pagan Canaanites (whom the Arab invaders would have slaughtered as they did all Pagans) to the “Palestinian” Arabs of today?
Wait for the usual deflection, silence, and/or obfuscation. They have no answer.
