The Hebron Massacre, 1929: How Jihad and Marxism Celebrated the Slaughter of Jews Together

On August 24, 1929, Arabs armed with knives, axes, and iron bars broke into Jewish homes in Hebron. Within two hours, 66 Jews were slaughtered—most of them unarmed. Two- and three-year-old toddlers, young girls. Heads were severed, throats were slit, women were raped in front of their families, eyes were gouged out, hands were cut off.

The pharmacist Ben-Zion Gershon, who had treated local Arabs for decades free of charge and saved hundreds of their lives, was murdered systematically: they cut off his hands, gouged out his eyes, raped and murdered his daughter, and stabbed his wife.

In the Slonim house, 22 souls were butchered. One-year-old Shlomo was found soaked in blood beneath a pile of corpses. Elsewhere, two-year-old Menachem Segal's head was torn from his body. Blood covered the floor like thick jelly. Yeshiva students were forced onto a woman's knees and then had their throats slit one by one.

The incitement came directly from Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem. He spread lies about the "usurpation" of the Western Wall and incited the crowds with cries of Allah-u Akbar and Itbakh al-Yahud ("Slaughter the Jews"). The Mufti consolidated his power through Islamic funds, radical religious schools, and the dissemination of hatred against Jews drawn from the Quran and Hadith—the exact same hatred Hamas later copied into its 1988 covenant.

And the Marxists? They celebrated. The Communist newspaper Morning Freiheit in New York published cartoons condemning the Jews who defended themselves. The Soviet Comintern called for the establishment of a "Soviet Arabistan" and voiced support for the pogroms. "In a country like Palestine, a revolutionary movement without pogroms is impossible," the Communists wrote.

Karl Marx himself wrote in On the Jewish Question: The Jew = Money, Usury, Interest. The emancipation of mankind = Emancipation from Judaism. He supported Ottoman Jihad against Russia to ignite a global revolution.

From then until today—the exact same Red-Green alliance. The exact same hatred. The exact same goal: the annihilation of Jews and Zionism.

These facts do not disappear. They are the true history of 1929, and they explain what is still happening here today.
